Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty ended marginally lower in highly volatile trade on Tuesday as losses in IT and auto stocks were largely offset by gains in banking and financial shares amid mixed global trends.
Profit booking by cautious investors ahead of F&O expiry on Wednesday also dented the sentiment.
Among the Sensex firms, Tech Mahindra, Tata Motors, Bharti Airtel, Wipro, Bajaj Finserv, HCL Technologies, Bajaj Finance, Larsen & Toubro, Mahindra & Mahindra and UltraTech Cement were the biggest laggards.
IndusInd Bank, Power Grid, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, NTPC, Reliance Industries, HDFC and Tata Steel were the prominent winners.
The 30-share benchmark index ended at 57613.72 down by -40.14 points or by -0.07 % and then NSE Nifty was at 16951.7 down by -34 points or by -0.2 %.
Sensex touched intraday high of 57949.45 and intraday low of 57494.91 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 17061.75 and intraday low of 16913.75

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1070.25,-2.90%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 401.70,-2.46%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 747.05,-1.94%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 356.30,-1.40%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 1223.20,-1.29%), among others.
