Pre-Session: Gap-up start likely for Sensex, Nifty amid firm global cues

The market is expected to open in the green on Friday as trends in the SGX Nifty indicate a gap-up opening for the broader index in India with a gain of 109 points after global sentiments improved over Federal Reserve official's signal towards a measured rate hike approach.



Among individuals, shares of Tata Power will be in focus after it collaborated with Enel Group to power digitalisation and automation of India's distribution network.



Besides, shares of NHPC will also be tracked after the state-run hydro-power giant paid Rs 997.75 interim dividend to the government for 2022-23



On Thursday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 58909.35 down by -501.73 points or by -0.84 % and then NSE Nifty was at 17321.9 down by -129 points or by -0.74 %.



On the global front, US stocks rallied on Thursday, as Treasury yields pulled back from earlier highs following comments from Atlanta Federal Reserve President Raphael Bostic about his favored path of interest rate hikes for the central bank.



The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 341.73 points, or 1.05 percent, to 33,003.57, the S&P 500 gained 29.96 points, or 0.76 percent, to 3,981.35 and the Nasdaq Composite added 83.50 points, or 0.73 percent, to 11,462.98.



Asia-Pacific markets rose on Friday, following Wall Street’s gains overnight after Atlanta Fed president Raphael Bostic said he’s “firmly” in favour of sticking with quarter-point hikes.



The Nikkei 225 rose 0.73 percent and the Topix was up 0.52 percent as Japan’s unemployment rate reached 2.4 percent in January, the lowest level since February 2020. In Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.30 percent. In South Korea, the Kospi gained 0.22 percent.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 22.07 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 53897.49 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 331579 with a total turnover of Rs. 30879.34 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 765635 with a total turnover of Rs. 47665.32 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 355373163 with a total turnover of Rs. 34085117.05 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 2442812 with a total turnover of Rs. 156540.52 Crore.



The FIIs on 02/03/2023 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 7255.71 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 436.89 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 6414.78 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 310.25 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 840.93 Crore and Rs. 126.64
