Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, are set for a positive start on Thursday, taking cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 25,306.50 earlier this morning.
Sentiment is being supported by easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, dovish signals from the US Fed, strong activity in the primary markets, and steady institutional inflows.
Mixed global cues may bring some volatility, but domestic fundamentals remain strong. The Reserve Bank of India, in its latest 'State of the Economy' report, highlighted India’s resilience amid global uncertainties. Notably, the RBI has slashed the repo rate by 100 basis points to 5.5% since February and announced a phased 100 bps CRR cut effective from September 6, aimed at infusing Rs 2.5 trillion into the system. This move is expected to ease borrowing costs and improve credit transmission.
On Wednesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 82755.51 up by 700.4 points or by 0.85 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25244.75 up by 200.4 points or by 0.8 %.
On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets opened on a mixed note Thursday, with investors keeping a close watch on the ongoing ceasefire developments between Israel and Iran.
Nikkei was up 0.98 per cent, while the broader Topix popped 0.48 per cent. The Kospi slipped 0.51 per cent, and aASX 200 was down 0.11 per cent.
Overnight in the US, equities saw modest moves. The S&P 500 ended just below the flatline at 6,092.16 as investors assessed its chances of revisiting record highs. The Nasdaq Composite gained 0.31 per cent to close at 19,973.55, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.25 per cent to settle at 42,982.43.
