Pre-Session: Flat start likely for Sensex, Nifty; RBI MPC decision eyed

Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty 50 are expected to open on a flat note on June 6, as indicated by GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 24,845.50 earlier this morning.

On June 5, the Nifty 50 crossed the 24,700 mark, supported by gains in Reliance Industries and private banking stocks, as investors attempted to push the market higher ahead of the RBI's monetary policy announcement and amid strength in Asian markets.

Today benchmark indices are expected to be guided by a combination of key factors, including the RBI’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) decision, renewed trade discussions between US President Donald Trump and China’s Xi Jinping, institutional investment flows, and mixed signals from global markets.

On Thursday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 81442.04 up by 443.79 points or by 0.55 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24750.9 up by 130.7 points or by 0.53 %.

On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets were higher as investors reacted to a phone call between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, which rekindled hopes of easing trade tensions between the two countries.

Nikkei rose 0.31 per cent, while Topix advanced 0.45 per cent. Kospi rose 1.49 per cent, and ASX200 popped 0.03 per cent.

Meanwhile, US stock futures were steady ahead of a closely watched jobs report that could provide fresh insights into the state of the American economy.

Overnight on Wall Street, the major US indices closed lower, weighed down by a decline in Tesla shares. The S&P 500 slipped 0.53 per cent, while the Nasdaq fell 0.83 per cent. The Dow Jones lost 0.25 per cent.
