Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty are likely to see a muted start on the final trading day of the week, with market sentiment expected to be shaped by a host of key triggers. These include the release of Q4 GDP data, the last leg of Q4 earnings, the potential reinstatement of Trump-era tariffs, institutional flows, forex market trends, and mixed global cues.
As of 6:40 AM, GIFT Nifty futures were trading 11 points lower at 24,932, indicating a flat to slightly negative opening for domestic equities.
Investors will be closely watching the Q4FY25 GDP numbers, scheduled for release later today. Analysts expect economic growth to have picked up during the January–March period, supported by a recovery in rural demand and robust government expenditure, even as private sector investments remained cautious amid global uncertainty.
On Thursday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 81633.02 up by 320.7 points or by 0.39 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24833.6 up by 81.15 points or by 0.33 %.
On the global front, Nikkei was down 1.48 per cent, while the broader Topix index fell 0.8 per cent. In South Korea, the Kospi slipped 0.18 per cent and ASX 200 edged down 0.19 per cent.
Overnight in the US, all three major indexes closed higher, buoyed by gains in tech stocks — particularly Nvidia — though gains were capped by uncertainty surrounding the court rulings.
The S&P 500 climbed 0.4 per cent after rising as much as 0.9 per cent intraday. The Nasdaq Composite added 0.39 per cent, retreating from a session high gain of 1.5 per cent. The Dow Jones rose 0.28 per cent.
