Equity benchmarks opened on a strong note Monday, May 26, driven by broad-based buying across sectors.
At 9:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 728.15 points, or 0.90%, to trade at 82,455.84, while the NSE Nifty50 reclaimed the psychological 25,000 mark, rising 179 points, or 0.72%, to hover around 25,032.
Leading the rally on the Sensex were Mahindra & Mahindra, Tech Mahindra, Power Grid, Tata Motors, ICICI Bank, NTPC, Titan, HCL Technologies, and Bajaj Finserv, with gains of up to 2.4%. Zomato, listed as Eternal, was the lone laggard, shedding 2.8%.
In the broader market, sentiment remained upbeat with the Nifty MidCap index up 0.78% and the Nifty SmallCap index advancing 0.88% in early trade.
All sectoral indices were trading in the green, led by strong performance in Nifty Auto (up 1%), Nifty Metal (up 0.9%), Nifty Pharma (up 0.85%), and Nifty PSU Bank (up 0.7%).
