Aurionpro has announced a landmark win to implement its Automated Fare Collection (AFC) system for Egypt’s public transportation network, marking a significant expansion of its footprint across the Middle East and Africa. The project will be executed by Aurionpro Transit Pte Ltd, the company's dedicated mobility arm, in partnership with Mastercard—merging Aurionpro’s advanced transit technology with Mastercard’s global expertise in payments and mobility.
This collaboration aims to deliver a secure, efficient, and digitally advanced fare collection experience, supporting Egypt’s vision for a modern, connected, and cashless public transport infrastructure.
As part of the engagement, Aurionpro Transit will lead the end-to-end deployment of the AFC system. The project scope includes the installation of advanced Validators, Mobile Data Terminals (MDTs), and a robust open-loop software solution fully integrated with Mastercard Payment Gateway Services. This setup will enable commuters to make secure, contactless fare payments across the transport network.
The initiative stems from a tri-party agreement involving Mastercard, the National Bank of Egypt, and Mwasalat Misr Group, a major player in Egypt’s public transport sector. The collaboration is focused on digitizing fare payments across Mwasalat Misr’s mass transit fleet, allowing passengers to pay in real-time using payment cards—onboard or via digital platforms.
Historically, fare collection in Egypt’s public transit system has been heavily reliant on cash transactions, limiting financial inclusivity and operational efficiency. With this digital transformation, commuters will benefit from faster, more convenient, and accessible travel experiences—aligning with Egypt’s Vision 2030 goal of fostering a cashless and digitally empowered economy.
Sanjay Bali, President and Global Head of the Tech Innovation Group at Aurionpro Solutions, expressed pride in this milestone, stating:
“This strategic win reflects our shared vision with Mastercard for the future of digital mobility. It reinforces Aurionpro’s expanding portfolio of AFC deployments in global markets and highlights our commitment to innovation and operational excellence. We’re excited to partner with MisrTech, Mwasalat Misr, and the National Bank of Egypt to deliver a secure, seamless transit experience that will redefine urban mobility across Egypt.”
