Maruti Suzuki Expands Solar Capacity by 30MWp with New Projects at Kharkhoda and Manesar

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has strengthened its commitment to renewable energy by expanding its solar power capacity by 30MWp through two new projects. The company has commissioned a 20MWp solar power plant at its new Kharkhoda facility in Haryana and added another 10MWp to its existing Manesar plant. With these additions, MSIL’s total solar capacity has grown from 49MWp to 79MWp over the past year.

In addition to expanding solar power, the company is also increasing its procurement of green energy from State Electricity Boards. These initiatives are aimed at significantly reducing reliance on conventional energy sources and enhancing the use of renewable energy in operations.

Commenting on the company’s green energy efforts, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of MSIL, said, “In line with Suzuki Motor Corporation’s Environment Vision 2050 and the Government of India’s renewable energy goals, we are steadily scaling up our use of green energy. By FY2030-31, Maruti Suzuki aims to reach a solar capacity of 319MWp, supported by an investment of over ?925 crore. As we target an annual production of four million vehicles, we are equally committed to matching this growth with robust sustainability practices. This solar expansion marks a significant step toward a cleaner energy future and supports our broader environmental goals.”

He further stated that with continued efforts, the share of renewable energy in the company’s total electricity consumption is expected to reach nearly 85% by FY2030-31.

MSIL continues to adopt green manufacturing practices across all its facilities, reaffirming its dedication to sustainability and environmental responsibility. These efforts are in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #7, which focuses on ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.
